2014 Yamaha SZ-RR – First Look

By Harshavardhan Kylas

Earlier last week, Yamaha launched the updated SZ-RR v2.0 at the conclusion of their ‘Mission 10,000 kms’ ride in Chennai. The SZ-RR v2.0 sees the inclusion of Yamaha’s proprietary ‘Blue Core’ technology, featuring a new 149cc engine which yields same 11.9 bhp of power and 12.8 Nm of torque. Although the company hasn’t revealed the new mileage, fuel efficiency figures are expected to shoot up by 14%. The 5-speed manual gearbox and carburetor system remain untouched. The new SZ-RR also witnesses new colour schemes – Green Arrow, Ivory White and Red Dash, tubeless tyres and minor changes to its instrument panel to give it a more refreshing look.

The company had earlier revealed its intent to equip all of its products with Blue Core technology and we expect them to continue this trend.  This is the fourth motorcycle in Yamaha’s product portfolio to have been updated with the Blue Core technology, after the FZ Fi v2.0, FZ-S Fi v2.0 and the Fazer Fi v2.0.

The new Yamaha SZ-RR is more expensive than the current version by roughly Rs. 4000, retailing at a price of Rs 65,300 (ex-showroom Delhi). The bike will contest in the entry level 150cc segment with the new Bajaj Discover 150, Hero Achiever, and the Honda CB Unicorn.
