Racing has always been an expensive sport. The lack of funds has always been the stumbling block for a multitude of enthusiastic riders trying to make a name in the racing scene. Over the last few years though, the situation has improved, thanks to the advent of one-make motorcycle racing series in India. These series, organized by top two-wheeler manufacturers, have been instrumental in nurturing fresh talent and bringing them to the fore of the national motorsports scene, all at a relatively affordable cost. Now, Suzuki joins the legion of Yamaha, Honda, and TVS, by announcing the Gixxer Cup championship in India.
The Gixxer Cup is aimed at providing an affordable platform for budding racers to get their feet wet in the world of motorcycle racing, and to sharpen their track-riding skills. The series is a 5-round contest that will be held between June ’15 and October ’15, as a part of the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship. Suzuki will be providing 20 race-prepped Gixxer SFs, along with support crew. The series will be split into two categories, Novice, for newbie racers, and Open, for the more seasoned ones.
Of the five races, the first will be held at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, while the next three are slated to happen at the Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai. The venue for the final round is yet to be confirmed; it could be held in either the Buddh International Circuit in Noida, or in Chennai. The championship is approved by the FMSCI, and will be organized by the Madras Motor Sports Club.
