The year 2015 witnessed the emergence of the entry level performance motorcycle segment. Major manufacturers like Bajaj, Mahindra, KTM etc. have begun to invest heavily to develop products in this segment. Benelli officially entered the Indian market last year and has done quite well so far. Its low capacity, high performance motorcycles like the TNT 300, the TNT 600i were particularly popular in India. However, the company did not have a fully faired bike to cater to some of the hardcore track enthusiasts. All that is about to change as the company unveiled its entry level, fully faired performance motorcycle at the Delhi Auto expo-the Tornado 302
Design and Powertrain
The Tornado 302 is very impressive to look at mainly due to its large full fairing and exposed frame. The riding posture is not very aggressive like the RC series of bikes from KTM.
The Tornado 302 is equipped with a 300 cc, twin-cylinder engine that develops a peak power of 34.9 bhp at 12,000 rpm and has a peak torque output of 27 Nm at 9000 rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox. The Tornado 302 will be equipped with ABS as standard feature
The Benelli Tornado 302 will go on sale later this year and will go head to head with the likes of the KTM RC 390, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the Yamaha R3. Pricing is a key factor as it will ultimately determine the success or failure of this 300cc superbike. Expect the Tornado to be priced at little over Rs. 3 lakhs.
