The Iconic American cruiser brand Indian motorcycle has added yet another bike to their ever expanding line-up in India. Called the Chief Dark Horse, this single saddle cruiser is based on the existing Chief Classic. This is the company’s second launch in the country in 2015. It is interesting to note that this motorcycle was unveiled internationally only a few days prior to the Indian launch.
As its name suggests, the Chief Dark Horse is blacked-out from end to end, including the wheels, forks, handlebars and the engine, with the shining bits kept to a bare minimum. Apart from the black-finished surfaces, other distinctive design elements include the signature “War Bonnet” mounted on the front fender, and the “War Bonnet” graphics on the fuel tank. The motorcycle is well-equipped too, with comfort-oriented features like keyless ignition and cruise control, and ABS to compliment the powerful disc brakes.
The Chief Dark Horse is powered by same the “Thunder Stroke 111” engine that’s found in all other Indian motorcycles bar the Scout. This is a 1811cc V-Twin unit that develops 138.9 Nm of torque at 2600 rpm, which should be more than sufficient to allow the 351kg behemoth that is the Dark Horse to accelerate quickly, and cruise at triple digit speeds effortlessly. Priced at Rs. 21.99 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi), the Indian Chief Dark Horse is for those riders who want a large cruiser that feels luxurious and exclusive, albeit with restrained and understated aesthetics.
