The cruiser segment in India now has a new player! UM Motorcycles has officially announced its entry into the Indian two-wheeler market by launching the Renegade cruiser series at the 2016 Auto Expo in New Delhi today.
The Renegade series consists of three variants, the Sport S, the Commando, and the Classic. All three cruisers are powered by a 279cc single-cylinder engine. It is fuel-injected and employs liquid-cooling, and is touted to produce 25 bhp and 21.8 Nm of torque.
While the basic design remains the same between the three bikes, each variant differs in terms of features. The entry-level Renegade Sport S comes with alloy wheels, a headlight cowl, a pillion seat cowl, and twin-tone paint work.
The Renegade Commando on the other hand features a military-inspired theme, with a matt paint, military insignia, and all-black finish. It gets large seat and a pillion back rest for added comfort.
The top-of-the-line Renegade Classic looks like a proper cruiser, with loads of chrome parts and ornaments, and is specced for touring, with the addition of a windscreen, and large seats and a back rest for the pillion.
Common features include a USB charging port, LED lights, Blind-Spot Rear View Mirrors, and provisions for optional accessories like remote start, and so on.
The Renegade cruisers are all priced very attractively. The range starts from Rs 1.49 lakhs for the Sport S, Rs 1.59 lakhs for the Commando, and culminates with the Classic at Rs 1.69 lakhs. As far as competitors are concerned, the main rival the Renegade faces would be the Royal Enfield Thunderbird. If it manages to prove that it can offer better quality, then Royal Enfield will have real competition for the first time ever.
