Auto Expo 2016 - Yamaha MT-09 First Look

By

Yamaha has experienced considerable success with naked bikes in India. The FZ series of bikes is extremely popular in the entry level performance bikes and was undisputed for a long period of time. Yamaha has officially launched the MT-09 in India-a bike that is widely regarded as one of the best naked bikes in the world. The bike took centre stage at Yamaha’s stall during the Delhi Auto Expo.

The MT-09 looks absolutely stunning and has very impressive performance figures. The bike’s popularity is mainly due to its stunning design, technology and performance. The MT-09 will go head to head with the likes of the Kawasaki Z800, the Triumph Street Triple and the Ducati Monster 821. The MT-09 has straight forward design that follows a “function over form” philosophy and will appeal to the younger audience in the Indian two-wheeler market. Yamaha will bring the MT-09 as a CBU (Completely Built Unit).

The MT-09 is equipped with a 847 cc, liquid cooled, in-line three cylinder engine that develops a peak power of 115 bhp and has a peak torque output of 87.5 Nm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed, constant mesh gearbox.

Features

The MT-09 is equipped with the following features:

  • ABS (Anti-Lock Brake system)
  • Traction Control System
  • Electronic Ride Mode Selection
  • Fuel Injection and Liquid Cooling
  • Front and Rear Disc Brakes

Colours

The MT-09 is available in the following colours:

  • Race Blue
  • Matte Grey

Price and First Impression

The MT-09 is priced at Rs. 10,20,000 (Ex-showroom Delhi) and will available only at select dealerships across the country. Although extremely capable, the expensive price tag may deter prospective buyers. That being said, if the MT-09 gains popularity amongst enthusiasts, Yamaha might be persuaded into launching other exciting low capacity MT series of bikes. For that sake alone, we hope that the MT-09 becomes a success story.
