DSK on track to introduce Benelli Motorcycles in India soon!

DSK MotoWheels are gradually building a reputation for themselves in the Indian two-wheeler market owing to their tie-up with Korean motorcycle maker Hyosung, which licensed the former to sell its range of sport bikes and cruisers here. It seems that DSK is seeking to delve further into the hearts and minds of Indian bike enthusiasts – the company is planning to introduce into the country motorcycles from famed Italian manufacturer Benelli Motorcycles.

Benelli Motorcycles were one among the first Italian motorcycle manufacturers, and were active participants in numerous racing championships in the early 20th century. The Italian company, which is currently a part of the Qianjiang Corporation in China, had earlier shown restraint in entering the Indian market due to the lack of popularity of high displacement motorcycles. But with the 200cc-300cc segment growing at a steady pace, the company feels that this is the right time to unleash their brand of motorcycles in the peninsula. Benelli’s array of products range from the 300cc BN 302 to the 1131cc TNT 1130 R, all endowed with the racing DNA that propelled the brand to success in their formative years.

Given DSK’s experience in reviving Hyosung’s flailing sales and brand image in India, one can expect them to work the same magic with Benelli, which is a relatively unknown brand here. It also remains to be seen if these bikes would be direct imports, or if they would be assembled locally from CKD kits. If it happens, this partnership should definitely mark the beginning of a new chapter for both companies.
