Harley-Davidson has launched the Street series motorcycles, its first all-new platform in over a decade. The Street 750 and Street 500 were designed to cater to consumers from the younger generation in both existing and emerging markets. The bikes are powered by the all-new Revolution X series liquid-cooled 60deg V-Twin engines that displace 749cc and 494cc. The Street series motorcycles will be made completely in India, making them the first Harleys that will be manufactured outside the USA. As with all Harley Davidsons, the Street series bikes can be heavily customized to suit owners’ tastes.
The Street 750 and the Street 500 will be available for sale in the first half of 2014. Harley Davidson has assured that on-road prices for the Street series bikes will not exceed Rs 5 lakh, so expect the Street 500 to cost around Rs 3.5 – Rs 4 lakhs on-road, and the Street 750 to cost between Rs 4.5 – Rs 4.8 lakhs.
Harley Davidson is betting big on the Indian market. Although they are already the largest-selling premium motorcycle brand in the country, the Street series bikes are very crucial to their prolonged success here, and in other emerging markets.
