Hero ZIR

The Hero ZIR (pronounced “Zed-Eye-Ar”) showcases a new direction take by Hero MotoCorp in the scooter segment. The ZIR is classified as a maxi-scooter, a scooter with larger dimensions and a large displacement engine compared to conventional ones. Maxi-scooters aren’t new to India – Kinetic Motors had launched the 165cc Blaze in 2005. While it was a bold move by Kinetic to launch the Blaze in India, our consumers weren’t as matured back then as they are today, and the scooter wasn’t received well. Now, 8 years down the line, Hero feels it is about time that Indian scooter consumers were offered a choice other than the scooters that are sold today, most of which employed similar mechanicals, and only looked different.

The Hero ZIR is powered by a 157.1cc single cylinder engine that outputs 14 bhp, high for an automatic scooter. The scooter comes equipped with many first-in-segment features, such as liquid-cooling for the engine, front and rear disc brakes, adjustable dual shock absorbers at the rear, projector headlamps, and even smartphone integration with the scooter’s systems! The ZIR looks striking, unlike any other scooter currently sold in India. Although the ZIR is much larger than a regular scooter, the large dimensions should help in offering a higher level of comfort and practicality to the rider.

The Hero ZIR will be marketed as a premium scooter, so expect it to be priced anywhere between Rs 75,000 – Rs 80,000 (ex-showroom), when it hits the market in the second-half of 2015.

Tech Specs

  • Engine – 157.1cc air-cooled single-cylinder
  • Power – 14 bhp @ 8500 rpm
  • Torque – 12.7 Nm @ 7000 rpm
  • Weight – 139 kg

Expected Price – Rs 75,000 - Rs 80,000 (ex-showroom)
