Hero Duet - First Look

The scooter segment is growing at an unprecedented pace in India. All major manufacturers have joined the race to grab a slice of market share in this promising segment. Hero Motocorp is one such company which has joined the fray. Not content with being the leader in the commuter bike segment, the company has plans to upset the leaders in the scooter segment. This is evident from the fact the company has added an all new scooter to its line-up namely, the Hero Duet. Read on to find out more.

2015 Hero Duet

Hero’s game plan

The Hero Duet is a 110cc scooter and will go head to head with popular 110cc scooters the Honda Activa, TVS Wego and Mahindra Gusto. The scooter will be positioned under Hero’s more premium Maestro. Hero hopes that the Duet will help in acquiring much needed market share by flying off the showrooms. The scooter is clearly aimed at people who are looking for a comfortable scooter for moving about within the city.

At first glance, especially when viewed head-on, the Duet has an uncanny resemblance to the Honda Activa. This makes it lose a bit of originality. However, when viewed from the side, the scooter looks quite different. The side panels have a stylish upward kink which adds some style to the scooter. In order to keep costs down, Hero has opted to go for steel wheels only. Other nice touches include external fuel filler cap and luggage carrying grab rails.

Features and Powertrain

The Duet has a funky and attractive instrument cluster. This is a semi-digital unit. The system comes with two trip meters, a side stand warning light and service indicator. Another crucial feature is the pass light switch which is glaringly missing in so many scooters in the market.  Other important features on the scooter include

·         Telescopic front suspension

·         Large under-seat storage compartment with lamp

·         USB 3.0 Charging socket

The Duet is powered by an all-new 111 cc engine that develops a  peak power of 8.3 bhp at 8000 rpm and has a torque output of 8.3 Nm at 6500 rpm.

The Hero Duet will be offered in two variants-one with lesser features than the other. The exact price of the scooter has not been revealed but it should be priced around the Rs. 50,000-55,000 range(ex-showroom Delhi). The list of features is impressive and the scooter feels reasonably well built. Stay tuned for a full-fledged review.
