Hero Motocorp unveiled its first ever indigenously developed motorcycle at the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this month-The Splendor iSmart 110. The bike is clearly one of the most important products in Hero’s line-up. What makes it special is that the bike is built on a brand new platform. This is crucial as future Hero bikes will be built around this platform. The bike also gets an all new powertrain as well.
The iSmart tag is Hero’s way of telling us that the bike is equipped with start-stop technology. The Splendor iSmart 100 is equipped with the same technology. The start-stop technology allows the engine to switch off while idling and start once the clutch lever is engaged. Hero’s design team has managed to create an attractive looking bike. The Splendor iSmart 110 is in no way boring to look at, which sadly is how most commuters look in the Indian market. The elegantly designed bikini fairing and the long, single piece seat looks cool.
The bike is powered by a 110cc, air-cooled engine that develops a peak power of 9 bhp and peak torque of 9 Nm. This engine is mated to a 4-speed, constant mesh gearbox. The Splendor iSmart 110 is equipped with a Torque-on-demand system, which helps in improving performance and acceleration. A lot of research and technology has gone into making the improved iSmart 110. This bike could very well become the most fuel efficient bike in India when it goes on sale later this year. Apart from this, the Splendor iSmart also gets a semi-digital instrument cluster and alloy wheels.
We are extremely interested in Hero’s new premium commuter and cannot wait to test it out. Like always, success depends on Hero’s pricing strategy and historically, the company is very accomplished when it comes to pricing. Stay tuned for more information in this segment.
