First it was the naked streetfighters, then the fully faired RC series, and now an adventure tourer! If you’re an ardent KTM fan, the coming few months have got to be some of the most eagerly anticipated months of your life. KTM India already gathered a lot of attention with their soon to be launched RC series and now, they have another bike scheduled for a launch in 2015.
The new bike is rumoured to be an off-roader-cum-tourer bike modeled extensively on their 1190 Adventure. The bike will sport KTM’s all-powerful 373.2cc fuel injected single cylinder engine, which catapulted the Duke 390 to success. The 390 Adventure, like the RC series, is expected to share most of the chassis components with the Duke twins, barring the suspension, which should be a stronger and sturdier unit with longer travel, to help combat unfriendly terrain. It will also feature a tall half-fairing, a larger petrol tank, and specially-treaded tyres, living up to its name of an adventure bike. The underbelly exhaust though, one of the signature features of the Duke and the RC, will not feature in the 390 Adventure, largely because of the need to increase ground clearance to make it conducive for all-terrain travel.
The 390 Adventure is expected to toe the same design philosophy as the multi-faceted 1190 Adventure.
KTM will be targeting a new audience with the 390 Adventure, one that comprises motorcycle tourers, off-roading enthusiasts, and hardcore adventurers. The bike is likely to be produced in Bajaj’s plant located at Chakan, Pune, where the Duke and RC-series bikes are currently being built. Expect KTM to price it affordably as always, at around Rs 2.5 – 2.75 lakhs on-road.
