Great news for KTM owners in India! The company is reportedly developing official ECU remaps for the Duke 200 and Duke 390. Since factory-fresh Dukes come with a rev-limiter and fuel mapping set on the conservative side for reliability, remapping the ECU has been a popular upgrade amongst Duke owners, as it is a quick and easy way to increase the power output. Untill now, ECU remaps have only be offered by third-party manufacturers. While third-party remaps do improve performance, the downsides are that it usually voids the manufacturer warranty, and if done improperly, it could even lead to serious engine issues . An official remap however will keep the warranty intact, and with developement done by KTM themselves, reliablity shouldn't be an problem.
Two ECU maps will be offered, one tuned for performance, the other optimised for city riding. Only one map can be loaded at a time, and it can only be done at a KTM Service Centre. We expect the official KTM ECU remaps to be priced at around Rs 10,000 - Rs 15,000 approximately.
KTM is also planning to introduce 'Orange Assist', a 24x7 roadside assitance service, in India. Owners who opt for this service can request a pickup incase of a breakdown, fuel-delivery if they run out of fuel, and even medical assistance if needed. Orange Assist will be available within a 100 km radius of all KTM Service Centres in India. With more and more people taking their bikes on long rides, Orange Assist will certainly be a welcome introduction for KTM owners.
With the performance remap installed, the KTM Duke 390 would require nothing more than a generous twist of the throttle to pop the front wheel!
