KTM has taken the wraps off the RC390 Cup racer, a bike that will be used in the 2014 season of the ADAC Junior Cup in Germany. Based on the 390 Duke, the RC390 Cup is a precursor to the upcoming road bike with the same name, which will look very similar to the racer.
Powered by a 373cc single-cylinder engine, the RC390 outputs 38 bhp, detuned from the 390 Duke's 44 bhp, but weighs in at 130 kgs, over 10 kgs lesser. The power, coupled with the low weight and the aerodynamic fairing will help the RC390 to hurtle to nearly 200 kmph with ease. The RC390 shares most of the chassis components, such as the trellis frame, front forks, rear monoshock, aluminium swingarm and the brakes, with the 390 Duke.
The road-going version of the KTM RC390 is expected to be showcased at EICMA, Milan in November 2013, with the launch slated to be in early 2014. Expect the RC390 to be priced at about Rs 2.0 – 2.5 lacs.
