KTM unveiled its much-awaited RC series of bikes, at the EICMA 2013 motorcycle expo that is currently underway in Milan, Italy. The RC125, RC200 and the RC390 are sport bikes that are based on the highly-successful Duke 125/200/390 series, and share almost all the powertrain and chassis components. Unlike the Dukes, the RC bikes incorporate a steeper steering rake, a shorter wheelbase and slightly rear-set foot pegs, making it more focussed towards sporty riding. Design-wise, the RC series bikes get all-new bodywork, which includes an aerodynamic full-body fairing, a redesigned metal fuel-tank and tailpiece, and twin headlamps. All the bikes will be equipped with ABS as standard.
KTM is expected to launch the RC series bikes in India in the first half of 2014. As with the Dukes, although all RC series bikes are manufactured in India, only the RC200 and the RC390 will be launched for sale here, as the RC125 is meant for export only.
The RC200 and the RC390 will be priced at around Rs 1.8 lakhs and Rs 2.4 lakhs on-road, respectively, approximately Rs 30,000 – Rs 40,000 more than their Duke counterparts.
