Royal Enfield's new plant in Chennai commences production

Royal Enfield Continental GT

Royal Enfield today commenced production at its all-new assembly plant in Oragadam, on the outskirts of Chennai. The new plant, spread over an area of 50 acres, has an annual production capacity of over 1.5 lakh units, and will supplement the existing plant in Thiruvottiyur. The new plant will produce the Classic and Thunderbird series bikes, along with the soon-to-be-launched Continental GT cafe-racer, and will cater to both the local and the export markets. With the commencement of production in the new plant, Royal Enfield is targeting a total production of over 2.5 lakh units by 2014. Prospective customers should see a shorter waiting period, which for some models extended to over 8 months.
