Seven Scooters That Must Be Launched In India

By

Of late, scooters have caught up with commuters in terms of sales. In fact, at the moment, it’s the Honda Activa that’s leading the two-wheeler sales charts, not just that of scooters, but of the entire motorcycle market! There is a very valid reason for this shift. Scooters are far more convenient than motorcycles. There is no hassle of shifting gears, which helps when riding in stop go traffic. Also, one can carry more luggage too.

The advantages of scooters are only as far as commuting and practicality goes. When it comes to having fun, all scooters that are sold in India draw a blank. There isn't a single scooter that offers the riding pleasure of say, a 250cc performance bike. Nor does any scooter offer the ability to tour long distances comfortably.

To sum it up, here’s a list of what’s wrong with the scooter segment in India:

1. There aren’t any performance scooters

2. There isn’t a single scooter to do long rides on

3. Most scooters aren’t that accommodating for riders of larger-than-average dimensions

4. They all look more or less the same

5. They all sound the same!

We believe India deserves better. While it is imperative that scooter manufacturers should concentrate at mass-market products to cash in on the increasing demand, they should also look into injecting a bit of fun and enthusiasm in a segment that’s as dull as watching paint dry.

In order to make the change from automatic boredom to automatic riding fun, here is a list of scooters available abroad, which we feel should make their way here. These may come across as expensive if you consider their current prices, but if they are ‘Made in India’, we’re sure they can be priced at affordable levels. Meanwhile, check out these awesome automatics, and let us know which ones you really like in the comments section below!
