Yamaha's Upcoming Alpha Scooter Spotted in India!

The first image of Yamaha’s upcoming scooter has surfaced online. The Cygnus Alpha, as the scooter will be called, will be the Japanese manufacturer’s third offering in the scooter segment in India.

Going by the image released by MotorBeam.com, the Alpha will most likely be based on the same platform as the Ray. Contrary to the Ray & Ray Z’s trendy styling, the new scooter seems to sport an understated body design, which leads us to believe that it will be targeted at a wider, more mature audience. No technical details have been released so far, so it remains to be seen if Yamaha will launch the Alpha with a more powerful 125cc as reported earlier, or if the scooter will sport the same 113cc engine as the Ray.

The new Yamaha Alpha will be positioned a notch above the Ray twins, and will compete head-on against the Honda Activa, the Suzuki Access, the Hero Maestro, and the TVS Jupiter. Expect Yamaha to unveil the new scooter in the first week of February this year, at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.
