Earlier this week, Yamaha dropped on us a slick teaser titled ‘Revstation’. The quick video offers fleeting glimpses of some exciting new products that the Japanese motorcycle giant will reveal in the forthcoming week.
One of the bikes that the video teases is the production version of the R25 concept sport bike. Now, the tricky part - we believe Yamaha will reveal not one, but two sport bikes. Considering the fact that the company has trademarked two names, YZF-R25 & YZF-R3, for its upcoming sport bikes, and that they have a 300cc single cylinder engine under developement, there is a high possibility that both the R25 and the R3 could be revealed at the same time.
While both the bikes should share the same basic design, the R25 will be equipped with a 249cc parallel-twin engine like the concept, whereas the R3 is touted to sport an all-new 300cc single cylinder engine. We believe that India and other developing markets will get the latter, as the cost constraints that are involved in manufacturing twin-cylinder engines will mean it will be difficult to price competitively. The R25 will head for developed markets, where it'll compete with the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and KTM Duke 390.
The Indian bike market has seen a stunning growth in the last five years, and most major two-wheeler manufacturers have cashed in on this trend. Yamaha may be joining the party a tad late, but considering the impact the R15 had on the market, and the brand recall the company enjoys in the country, the YZF-R3 could prove to be a big success.
