In 2014, the Indian two wheeler market reached 16 million units out of which 11 million units were motorcycles. Among the motorcycles, bikes belonging to the 100-125cc category comprised about 83% of the total market. In order to stay in the game in this high volume commuter segment, Yamaha Motorcycles India has launched the Saluto, an all-new 125cc motorcycle.
The Saluto is powered by an all new “Blue-Core” engine. This 125cc single cylinder air-cooled engine features an extremely compact combustion chamber when compared to previous generation engines developed by Yamaha. The Saluto is claimed to be the lightest motorcycle in its segment, which in turn translates to good fuel economy. The engine develops 8.1 bhp at 7000 rpm and 10.1 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. This engine is mated to a 4-speed gearbox. The Saluto gets telescopic forks at the front and a swingarm at the rear. Both the front and rear wheels are provided with 130mm drum brakes.
The Yamaha Saluto is priced at Rs.52,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), and will lock horns with the segment-leading Honda CB Shine, the Bajaj Discover 125, and the Hero Super Splendor. Stay tuned for more details.
