By

India Yamaha Motors has confirmed that it will launch a 250cc sports bike to battle the likes of the Honda CBR250R, Kawasaki Ninja 250R and Hyosung GT250R. In a recent interview to Financial Chronical, Hiroyuki Suzuki, the CEO of India Yamaha Motors hinted that a "powerful and sporty" 250cc bike is currently under development and will be launched in 2014. He further stated that in 2013, Yamaha will concentrate in improving its stand in the automatic scooter market, and will be launching a few products in that segment to cater to a wider audience. Considering the market positioning of the Ray, expect a new scooter targeted at male consumers to be launched in 2013.

The competetion in the 250cc space is heating up, with Hero joining hands with American sportsbike manufacturer Erik Buell Racing to develop a 250cc bike, and KTM lining up a 373cc bike in the same price bracket for launch in 2013. Will it be too late for Yamaha to join the party? Considering the phenomenal success of the R15 and the FZ series, Yamaha could be hiding yet another ace up their sleeves.
