The 2016 KTM Duke 200 is the first product of the alliance between Bajaj Auto the Austrian off-road experts. The bike is powered by a 25bhp fuel-injected 200cc single cylinder engine, mated to a short-ratio six-speed gear box that helps it accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in under ten-seconds. The Duke 200 is designed such that all heavy components, such as the exhaust and the engine are tightly packaged and placed in the centre of the bike, so as to help in mass-centralization and lowering centre of gravity. Combined with the wide handlebar and lightweight construction, it makes the bike very nimble to ride in traffic. The bike is armed to the teeth with features that are most commonly found only on bikes costing ten times as much, like the rigid steel trellis frame, lightweight aluminium swingarm, 43mm diameter upside-down front forks, adjustable rear monoshock, fully digital multifunction display, LED indicators and tail lights, back-lit switchgear, a customizable gearshift indicator light and an all-alloy handlebar.
The KTM Duke 200 mileage is abot 35 kmpl. The bike is available in three colours, Black, White, and KTM’s trademark Orange. The 2016 KTM Duke 200 price as of January 2016 is Rs.1,38,327(ex-showroom, Delhi).
The KTM Duke 200 is styled in line with the company’s design language, accentuated by the sharp lines and flat surfaces that lend it an aggressive look. The bike is equipped with wide handlebars and slightly rear-set foot pegs that seat the rider in a position that offers maximum control during spirited riding, while not adversely affecting comfort during everyday usage.
The KTM Duke 200 is powered by a tech-laden short-stroke 199cc engine. The liquid-cooled engine is fed via fuel-injection, and outputs 25 bhp @ 10,000 rpm and 19.2 Nm torque @ 8000 rpm. The exhaust is mounted underneath the bike for better mass centralization and improved low-end torque. A short-ratio 6-speed gearbox helps the bike to accelerate from 0 – 100 kmph in under 9 seconds.
The KTM Duke 200 employs a steel trellis frame, a type of frame that is lightweight and rigid, while adding to the aesthetic appeal of the bike. The bike is fitted with inverted telescopic forks at the front, and an adjustable monoshock at the rear.
The KTM Duke 200 is fitted with a massive 110-section tyre at the front and 150-section tyre at the rear, which helps in gripping the road tightly around corners. Stopping power is provided by a 280 mm front disc with 4-piston caliper and a 230 mm rear disc with a 2-piston caliper that are hydraulically-actuated via steel braided brake lines.
The KTM Duke 200 is a bike that is meant for those looking for a sporty, powerful and nimble bike for city commutes, as well as short weekend rides. Check the KTM Duke 200 review in the section below.
