The Yamaha Fazer is a variant of the FZ series of bikes by Yamaha. It is the first bike to be launched in India with an emphasis on cross-country touring. Powered by a torquey 153cc air-cooled single cylinder engine, the Fazer comes with a tall-ratio 5-speed gearbox that helps in cruising on the highway. It comes with additions such as an aerodynamically-designed half-fairing, in order to protect the rider from wind-blast, a long and wide seat, and a wide handlebar for fatigue-free riding. Also, the wide 140-section rear tyre helps with the stability of the bike, so that it feels safe at high-speed. The fazer is equipped with features such as a digital speedometer console, electric start, alloy wheels, side stand indicator, and a pass-light switch.
The 2016 Yamaha Fazer delivers an average mileage of 50 kmpl. The Fazer is priced at Rs.78,200(ex-showroom, Delhi), and is available in Streak Red, Getaway Blue, Rising Red, and Milestone Black colours.
The Fazer is positioned as a sports tourer, and is equipped with an aerodynamic half-fairing to aid long-distance touring. The bike comes fitted with a wide handlebar and moderately rear-set foot pegs that seat the rider bent slightly forward with the feet placed towards the rear, in a position that offers maximum control during spirited riding while not adversely affecting comfort during everyday usage.
The Fazer is powered by an air-cooled 153cc single cylinder engine that is tuned for low-end torque, developing 13.8 bhp @ 7500 rpm and 13.6 Nm torque right from 6000rpm. A 5-speed constant mesh gearbox is used to transfer power to the rear wheels.
The Fazer employs telescopic forks at the front and a gas-charged mono shock absorber at the rear. Usage of a mono-shock rather than dual shock absorbers helps in reducing the unsprung mass of the bike, thereby improving the dynamic characteristics of the bike.
The Fazer uses a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. A rear disc brake option is not available.
The Fazer is best for those looking for a sporty bike that can be used for both city commutes and for short weekend rides.
