The 2016 Yamaha Ray is the first scooter to be launched by Yamaha in India. Targeted at women within the age group of 18-24, the Ray features a 113cc single cylinder engine that is peppy and fuel-efficient. The scooter comes with features like underseat storage, body-integrated headlamp unit, wide seat with grab rail, front storage space, a convenience hook, front telescopic fork suspension, and 130mm drum brakes.
The 2016 Yamaha Ray delivers an average mileage of 53 kmpl. It is priced at Rs.47,805(ex-showroom, Delhi), and is available in black, white, blue, burgundy, grey, pink, and purple.
The Ray employs a step-thru body style, which simplifies getting astride the seat and off it. The scooter is targeted at the female consumer base, and hence incorporates trendy styling elements in its design. The ergonomics offered is that of a typical scooter, with a feet-forward upright seating posture.
The Ray is powered by an air-cooled 113cc single cylinder engine that produces 7 bhp @ 7500 rpm and 8.1 Nm torque @ 5000 rpm. The scooter employs an automatic continuously variable transmission, which makes it easy to ride without the hassle of shifting gears.
The Ray uses telescopic forks at the front, and a hydraulic shock absorber at the rear end. Telescopic forks offer more travel when compared to trailing-link type suspension, which improves the shock absorption characteristics, offering a more comfortable ride.
The Ray comes fitted with 130mm drum brakes on the front and rear wheels.
The Yamaha Ray is best suited for those looking for a scooter for commuting short distances within the city, and those who are new to riding a motorized two-wheeler.
