The 2016 Yamaha R15 was the first 150cc sportsbike that was launched by Yamaha in India. At the time of the launch, R15 was the most technological advanced bike on sale, with a liquid-cooled, 4-valve single overhead camshaft engine that produced 17 bhp and was mated to a six-speed gearbox. Other features include an aerodynamically designed full body fairing, Deltabox twin-spar frame, linked type rear mono-shock suspension, and an aluminium swingarm. All these help the bike in its cornering ability and stability at high speed. Stopping power is offered by disc brakes on the front and rear wheels, while the 5-spoke alloy wheels that help in reducing unsprung mass come as standard fitment. The latest variant of the bike, dubbed œv2.0, comes with a stepped pillion seat, LED tail-lights and a wider 130-section rear tyre.
The 2016 Yamaha YZF-R15 mileage is about 47kmpl. The bike comes in GP Blue, Streking Cyan. The Yamaha YZF-R15 price as of January 2016 is Rs.1,10,600(ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Yamaha YZF-R15 V2.0 is designed for sporty riding, a full-body fairing, low-set clip-on handle bars and rear set foot pegs. This position offers maximum control over the bike at high speed, although it would apply some stress on the lower back and on the wrists for first-time riders. The full-body fairing aids in channelling air flow around the rider, minimising wind blast and aiding them to cut through the air efficiently, thereby increasing top speed.
The Yamaha YZF-R15 V2.0 is powered by a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 4-valve dual overhead camshaft 149cc single cylinder engine that has a rev-happy character, and outputs 17 bhp @ 8500 rpm and 15 Nm torque @ 7500 rpm. The engine mated to a six-speed gearbox, via which power is transmitted to the rear wheel.
The Yamaha YZF-R15 comes equipped with telescopic forks at the front, and a mono shock at the rear. The front forks are non-adjustable, while the rear shock absorber adjusts its stiffness automatically according to the load applied, so as to provide an even suspension action regardless of the load applied.
The Yamaha YZF-R15 V2.0 comes shod with a 270mm front disc brake and a 220mm rear disc brake. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is not available.
The Yamaha YZF-R15 is best suited for those who want a sports bike that can be used for city commutes, track riding, and for long leisure rides. Check out the Yamaha YZF-R15 review in the section below.
