Honda Combined Anti-lock Braking System (C-ABS)

Combined Anti-lock Braking System, or C-ABS, is a brake technology developed by Honda. Unlike conventional systems, which just prevent the wheels from locking-up, C-ABS automatically distributes braking power between the front and rear wheels when the system senses impending wheel lock-up, even if the rider applies either only the front or only the rear brake.

Combined ABS is a Brake-by-Wire system that converts hydraulic pressures generated by the rider’s brake lever and pedal input into electronic signals, which in turn communicate to a power unit how much braking force to apply to the front and rear wheels. A computer calculates the distribution of front and rear braking forces based upon the rider’s input, helping to reduce braking distance, while preventing wheel lock-up.
