The monocoque is a type of chassis where no frame is used; instead, all the chassis components, the steering head, the rear sub-frame, and the swingarm, are connected directly to a reinforced engine casing. This eliminates the need for a frame, thereby reducing the overall weight by a substantial margin. While monocoque chassis construction is commonly used in cars, it is rarely used in two-wheelers. It can be found in a few scooters, some high-end sportbikes like the Ducati 1199 Panigale featured here, and in MotoGP racers.
